Reliance Communications enters Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process
Reliance Communications Limited, historically a major telecom operator in India, has formally entered the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process by filing before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). The company notified the NSE via disclosure letter on 20 Aug 2026. Under the IBC 2016, the debtor now enters a 180-day resolution window (extendable by up to 90 days) during which an Insolvency Professional is appointed to manage the company, a Committee of Creditors (CoC) is formed to evaluate resolution plans, and all creditors file claims. The process is designed to maximize asset recovery and determine whether the debtor should undergo resolution or be liquidated.
Why it mattersCIRP filing triggers mandatory disclosure obligations under IBBI rules; creditors must file claims within the prescribed period; the Insolvency Professional will assume control of the company's operations and pursue resolution/liquidation; key precedent in telecom sector M&A restructuring.
